That is a helpful list. While inspiration should not be discounted planning and organizing are also critical.

Hi,

Thanks for the twitter follow today - to which I reciprocated.

The bit about registering the .com resonated with me. When I conceived the idea of naming my business AdJuice, the .com was registered but not being used by anybody worldwide.. I decided to go ahead with .co.uk regardless and it was a source of frustration when a U.S. company later started trading using adjuice.com. Not only that but they ripped off my logo to some extent. Fortunately they were not offering SEO services.

The one point I would make about people searching for you is that they nearly all will type adjuice into a search engine and not adjuice.com into the browser address bar. Thankfully google will show adjuice.co.uk to any searcher in the UK ahead of adjuice.com.

Having said that I would never go that route again. If I couldn't get the .com I would get a different name so I agree with your point.

By coincidence, I set up a new blog last week on v2-seo.com and wrote my first piece about business names and domain names.

Regards,
Ewan
